Junior Classical League

What is it?

The Junior Classical League is one of the largest academic youth organizations in the world.

The national convention takes place in the summer at a college campus. Students from across Kentucky usually travel together to nationals and compete as a team. This week-long event brings together 1,500+ Latin and Greek students and teachers. Students participate in Latin and Greek related games and contest, enjoy a Roman banquet (in togas), put on a talent show, and make friends with fellow students from around the country.

The 2020 convention was held over Zoom. More than 60 hours of content was streamed, beginning with a Roll Call by the state delegations. Kentucky is at about minute 6, while Ohio comes in at the 11:45 mark.

Our Latin teacher, Kelly Kusch, has sponsored a chapter for 30 years and recently served as the Kentucky State Co-Chair. She has also held leadership positions at the national level. JCL sponsors many classics-themed events and programs throughout the year.

The state convention is in March, usually at a hotel in Louisville or Northern Kentucky.
