TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
IMPORTANT SKILLS I WANT TO TEACH MY STUDENTS
While it is not directly related to the subjects that I teach, I want my students to learn how to think for themselves, take responsibility for their actions, and to NEVER GIVE UP!
TEACHING METHODS TO REACH THESE GOALS
Students must be challenged at all times. They should be encouraged to ask questions and explore the subject on their own. To get the most out of a class, one must maintain discipline.
The lecture method with in-class assignments and teacher examples seems to work the best. I use demos when appropriate.
MY FAVORITE PROJECTS
I like to get out of the classroom to show some practical uses of math and science out in the community. For math, we watched an intersection to count the cars passing in the street. What is the probability that a car will make a complete stop? What was the average speed? What was the rate of cars passing per minute?
WHAT I LIKE BEST ABOUT TEACHING
What I like best about teaching is that it keeps me young! I like hearing all the questions and learning new things each day. It is especially meaningful when a former student tells me that I was really tough on them, but it paid off in the long run.
